Our history / story
The Gasyard Development Trust is a registered charity, founded in 1996, with a mission to support the personal and social development of local residents through a variety of programs and initiatives. Serving as a project deliverer, landlord, and facilities provider, the Trust plays a central role in promoting community and economic regeneration, working strategically with local groups, schools, and both the private and statutory sectors.
The Gasyard Centre, completed in 2001 and redeveloped in 2024, is the hub of the Trust’s operations. It houses several of the Trust’s own in-house projects, such as Flip-It, Bluebell Arts Projects, and Gasyard Wildflower Studios, which offers valuable after-school services for the community.
In addition to these projects, the Gasyard Centre is home to a diverse range of tenants, including Hive Cancer Support, the Triax Neighbourhood Management Team, SureStart Edenballymore, and Gather at the Gasyard Café. The Centre also hosts the Gasyard Allotments and the Gaelscoil Eadain Mhóir, an Irish-medium primary school.
A significant recent addition to the Gasyard Centre is the Peacemakers Museum, part of the 2024 redevelopment. The museum offers a detailed exploration of the local history, focusing on the period from August 1972 to May 2007, to help visitors understand how the conflict in Northern Ireland evolved into the peace process and its lasting impact on the community.
Through its facilities and partnerships, Gasyard Development Trust continues to be a cornerstone of community support, fostering growth, education, and healing.
